Tinashe Chiura - Cultural Studies & Languages
Tinashe Chiura is a Zimbabwean-American 5th term student, with a plan in Visual Arts & French. She has her heart and mind set on exploring the notion of identity in post-colonial Africa through visual arts. Her greatest ambition is to transform the urban makeup of cities like her native Harare to transcend the colonial and evolve into urban spaces that reflect Zimbabwean culture and history.
Through the exploration of Francophone literature and film, she has had the unending privilege of learning more about her own country and others like hers; movements that solidified and continue to divide the African continent, and the emerging visionaries and leaders that are leading the countries she studies and lives into a new era.
In serving the CSL Department, she has 3 concrete goals :
1. Inspire creative engagement in the Language Studies departments through regular events, publications, and informal community gatherings.
2. Formulate changes within the language department to make language studies equitably accessible to more students.
3. Work with the wider community to listen to their queries about the language studies department, and ensure we are a visible and engaged part of student life - through both inter and extracurriculars.
Please feel free to email her.
